As Liberal Democrats, we want to improve and enrich the lives of everyone across Guildford Borough, with no one forgotten and no one excluded. That is why we are continuing to invest in our local public services, people's well-being, local infrastructure and supporting local businesses to thrive.
Our action so far...
- Kept council tax rises below inflation and working with Waverley Borough Council to deliver millions of back-office savings over the next few years
- Developing a masterplan to tackle flooding risk and guide the regeneration of the town centre and the riverside
- Stood up to property developers and R4GV to demand large developments include affordable housing
- Ensured continued financial support for our arts and heritage throughout the pandemic and energy crisis
- Provided leadership throughout the Covid pandemic by providing food parcels, access to medicines and other support for residents most at risk
- Developed The Hive into an all-age community hub to act as our base to provide services and support for those most in need across all our communities
- Launched a new economic strategy to support the creation of new jobs in our borough
Our commitment for the next four years...
- Deliver the sustainable regeneration of Guildford town centre to ensure that our high street and its businesses thrive long term.
- Will work with parish councils and local communities to revitalise out-of-town shopping areas.
- We will fight for better bus services, better cycling routes and new train stations to make green transport options affordable and accessible to everyone.
- Support the creation of more community fridges and similar projects across the borough
- Launch a rural prosperity fund to support businesses and communities in our rural areas
- Support 20 mph areas and better street lighting to create safer streets
