Because a fairer future is a brighter future for everyone in Guildford Borough
As Liberal Democrats, we believe that everyone has the right to the best start in life and the opportunity to reach their full potential, to have access to high-quality services and housing, and that no one should be held back because of poverty, poor health or discrimination. That's why we're making a fairer future for everyone across Guildford Borough a priority.
Our action so far...
- Invested £45 million in council housing - to refurbish, improve insulation and make homes more energy efficient and safe.
- Proposals are in place to deliver around 700 new affordable homes on sites such as Guildford Park Road and Weyside Urban Village
- Almost completely ended rough-sleeping in Guildford through increased support and accommodation
- Protected frontline public services
- Opened Guildford's first community fridge
- Supported the community in welcoming refugees from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria
- Showed leadership on ending violence against women and girls, despite opposition from all other parties on the council
- Provided support for military personnel, veterans and their families, winning silver-level recognition from the MOD
Our commitment for the next four years...
- Continue to prioritise affordable housing and the building of new, sustainable, high-quality properties for those needing council homes
- Restore evening activities for young people in Ash, and support better community services across the borough where there is local support
- Prioritise protecting public services for those in need, by finding back-office savings through our collaboration with Waverley Borough Council
- Work to end violence against women and girls, and continue to support our LGBT+ community in the face of rising prejudice
