Tackling the Climate Crisis Together
The climate crisis is real and we must act now to ensure planet earth and our long term survival. I am therefore delighted that Liberal Democrat Conference this weekend passed an ambitious strategy to reach net zero 2045.
We know that hitting this target needs everyone - communities, businesses, and all levels of government - to come together to achieve it. The Liberal Democrat's will:
- Empower councils and give them the resources to reduce emissions and set up green projects in a way that makes sense in their own communities
- Plant 60 million trees a year, every year, which is one tree for every person in the UK
- Convert rail networks to ultra-low-emission technology (electric or hydrogen) by 2035
- Ban non-recyclable single-use plastics within three years
- and a whole lot more.
Change needs to be fast and effective - you can read more about our plan for action here.
You can also be assured that we won't stop here.
The Liberal Democrats are not afraid of experts or change. If fresh ideas and research emerge we will look to update our policy. Being 'right' should never trump the truth, especially when the future of our planet is at stake.
