Parliamentary Candidate Zöe Franklin to join Pride in Surrey celebrations in Woking

Guildford's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Zöe Franklin will join thousands from across the county to celebrate the first ever Pride in Surrey event which is taking place in Woking on Saturday 10th August.

Zöe commented, "As a Liberal Democrat I'm proud that our party has consistently championed LGBT+ rights and were able to deliver same sex marriage when we were in government. So, it's particularly exciting to be able to be part of the first ever Pride in Surrey celebrations on Saturday.

Stephen Ireland, Charlie Watts and all of the Pride in Surrey team, and partner organisations, have worked tirelessly over the past year or more to make this event happen and I know that it will be a fantastic event for everyone in the LGBT+ community and beyond.

Events like this are so important. Most importantly they provide an opportunity for the LGBT+ community to gather together with friends and family. There is also a more serious and really important side to these events too - they help to build connections across the wider community and raise awareness of some of the day-to-day challenges that the LGBT community face.

I hope that people from across Surrey will come and join the Pride celebrations on Saturday. Looking at the plans for the day it is going to be fabulous - I'm really looking forward to it!"
