Liberal Democrats announce Friary & St Nicolas candidate as local resident Cait Taylor for 6th May By-Election
Guildford Lib Dems are delighted to announce that Friary & St Nicolas resident Cait Taylor will be standing as the Lib Dem candidate for the Friary & St Nicolas by-election that will take place on Thursday 6th May. The by-election was called as a result of popular and hardworking Lib Dem borough councillor Caroline Reeves standing down after 16 years.
Speaking after her confirmation as the candidate, Cait said, "I am very happy to have been selected to stand to be the new borough councillor for Friary and St Nicolas ward. I have lived in Guildford for 13 years with the last five in Friary & St Nics. I have seen first-hand the difference that Caroline has made for local people. It is my hope that I will be elected and continue the work that Caroline has started alongside fellow Lib Dem borough councillors Angela Goodwin and Tom Hunt. I am keen to act as an advocate for my fellow residents in the ward, working collaboratively to achieve more widely sustainable outcomes for the town.
"If elected I will work hard for Friary & St Nicolas and Guildford. Issues that particularly concern me include:
- Ensuring pollution within the area is kept to a minimum for the health of all residents.
- Promoting small local businesses to benefit our local economy.
- Increasing housing provision to ensure that affordable housing is available to everyone.
I hope that residents will give me their support on 6th May."

More about Cait
Cait Taylor has lived in Guildford for 13 years, the last five of which have found her resident in Dapdune Road with her three older children who have all attended Guildford schools. She is a trained solicitor but for much of her working life she has been involved in the housing sector, an experience that has led her to believe that it is a basic human right for everyone to have a decent, affordable home to live in. She is also passionate about the need to fight climate change and is a convert to our "20's plenty" campaign for its ability to make our roads safer and the air around our schools cleaner. She recognises the need for development to prioritise the regeneration of the town centre both for businesses and the local economy and has become even more pressing following the pandemic.
In her spare time, Cait enjoys taking on challenges to raise money for charity and currently voluntarily supports a few people who need help with personal issues.
