Lib Dems set out their priorities for their first 100 days of leadership

Following their success in the local elections in May and taking on the leadership of Guildford Borough Council, the Liberal Democrat council team have set out their priorities for their first 100 days in leadership of the council. The list makes a clear departure from the approach of the previous Conservative administration and shows a clear commitment to a new, progressive approach to running the council.

Speaking about the release of the list, Liberal Democrat Council Leader Caroline Reeves said,

"All of the Liberal Democrat council team ran on a platform of 'Demanding better for Guildford Borough' and our priorities for our first 100 days leading the council are the start of delivering on that.

Central to everything has to be the climate emergency, it will impact the environment and every person, everywhere, in many different ways. We must be pro-active, continue the good work already started and tackle every issue in a positive and constructive way. In addition, we have to create a more inclusive and accessible borough; and progress work on the housing and development promises from our election manifesto.

Our priorities seek to balance our ambition with realism. The real, long-lasting changes needed at Guildford Borough Council are a challenge but working together with colleagues of all political parties and the people of Guildford Borough we believe that can make those changes."

Priorities for the First 100 Days to 21st August 2019:

• Fly the LGBT+ flag as part of Pride month - this has already taken place.
• Publish a Climate Change Action Plan including an explanation of the make-up of the new Climate Change Panel.
• Work to bring in public access to drinking water across the urban areas
• Take a fresh look at the development of social housing across the borough including how to build the maximum number of social and affordable homes and protect new-builds from being lost to Right to Buy.
• Launch a Lib Dem Plastic Free Guildford initiative campaign and work with other Guildford based plastic free campaigners - Cllrs George Potter, Steven Lee and James Steel have already started work on this.
• Establish a Youth Forum, initially focusing on environmental issues but may be widened to include other issues in time.
• Highlight the Borough-wide issues around disability access and promote inclusion.
• Work with local organisations to involve communities and schools in creating wildlife-friendly environments across the Borough.

• Improve communications in all areas of PR and Communications to help ensure the people of Guildford Borough are better informed on council issues.
• Publish the public consultation process for North Street redevelopment scheme.
