Labour Confirms: Guildford Not A “Battleground” Seat
In a recent communication to its members, the Labour party announced it will not seriously contest the Guildford constituency at the next election.
Labour has designated Guildford one of its "non-battleground” seats, as it diverts its focus to constituencies where it is best placed to challenge the Conservatives.
At the last General Election, Guildford Liberal Democrat candidate Zöe Franklin and her team came within just 3,337 votes of unseating the Conservatives.
Zöe Franklin, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Guildford said:
“With every respect to the Labour party’s campaigners and supporters in Guildford, I welcome this confirmation that Labour recognises the Liberal Democrats are the only party to mount a real challenge to the Conservatives here.
“The momentum of support for the Liberal Democrats has continued since the last General Election. The Lib Dems are honoured to have won majority control of Guildford Borough Council in the local elections earlier this year. The party’s commitment to a greener, fairer and thriving future resonates with voters who are desperate for change. We must continue to fight for the best for everyone.
“I am committed to being the best local champion for everyone in the Guildford constituency. A vote for the Liberal Democrats in Guildford is the only way to achieve the change we all desperately need.”
