Guildford's Conservative MP delivered warning as poll shows they're at risk from Liberal Democrats
A new MRP poll from YouGov has suggested that the Liberal Democrats could be set to win should a General Election be held tomorrow.
The poll nationally, as covered by the Mirror, shows 24 'Blue Wall' seats falling to the Lib Dems including Guildford and Cranleigh.
Guildford and Cranleigh is a two-horse race between the Liberal Democrats as the clear challengers and the Conservatives. Zöe Franklin is just 3,337 behind, leaving the seat on a knife-edge at the next General Election.
It comes following a host of election wins and growing momentum for the Liberal Democrats. Over the last twelve months, the party has won by-elections in Buckinghamshire, Shropshire, and Devon, winning formerly safe Conservative seats as voters swing behind the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats also gained more seats than any other party at the local elections in May.
The Liberal Democrats in Guildford and Cranleigh are campaigning for a fair deal for residents. The party is calling for a tax cut to VAT which would save households an average of £600, a plan to tackle the crisis in local health services and the proper implementation of a windfall tax on oil and gas giants to help families with soaring energy bills.
Reacting to the poll, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages, Zöe Franklin said:
"This should come as a warning shot to Guildford's MP that at the next election, the Liberal Democrats are coming for them.
"For too long Angela Richardson and her Conservative Government has taken our area for granted. And, we've seen right across the country it's the Liberal Democrats who are best placed to send them a message they can't ignore at the next election.
"Here in Guildford and Cranleigh residents are sick to their back teeth of the deal they're getting from Boris Johnson's Conservatives, they have hiked our taxes, pumped sewage into our rivers and taken residents for granted for too long - it's time for a change."
