Guildford Rail Commuters Hit With Biggest Price Rise In A Decade
Liberal Democrat Candidate Zöe Franklin says "Government Must End This Rail Fare Rip Off"
Guildford commuters renewing their season tickets will be paying more than £4,300 from this week; the 5.9% rise means an extra £240 for an annual season ticket to London.
That's the biggest price rise since 2012. The Liberal Democrats call for a fare freeze as the cost of living crisis continues.
Guildford's Liberal Democrat Candidate Zöe Franklin:
"At a time when we're all trying to cope with this ongoing cost of living crisis, here's yet another burden placed on people who rely on trains to get to work, school, or to visit friends and family.
"That the Government is pushing ahead with the biggest fare rise in more than a decade, as people are struggling with higher taxes, soaring food bills and rent and mortgage payments, tells us all we need to know about how tone deaf and out of touch the Conservatives are.
"The rail system is broken. It needs fixing. We're facing record levels of unreliable, poor service - how can the Government think it's acceptable to force us to pay even more for a service we can't rely on? We deserve better."
