Guildford Borough Council's Liberal Democrat-led Executive votes to adopt Climate Change Action Plan

Speaking after last night's meeting of the Guildford Borough Council Executive, Climate Change Spokesperson George Potter said:
"I'm delighted and proud that tonight Guildford Borough Council's Liberal Democrat-led Executive voted to adopt a Climate Change Action Plan in response to the climate emergency we have already declared.
"Achieving all of this isn't going to be easy, and it will involve making hard choices to find the funding necessary to make it happen, but we are determined to succeed. The climate crisis is a genuine emergency and we cannot afford to wait.
"We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to do everything we can to avoid catastrophe and secure a just and sustainable future for all."
- Guildford's Climate Change Action Plan includes:
- Cutting Guildford Borough Council's own carbon emissions to net zero by 2030
- Investing in a big expansion in solar energy generation
- Improving air quality by cutting air pollution
- Restoring and creating wildlife habitat
- Planting trees and hedges, and preserving the ones we've got
- Investing in Guildford's council houses to make them energy efficient
- Working with businesses to transition to a low-carbon economy
- Partnering with other councils to improve sustainable transport.
- Work with local residents and communities to help everyone play their part in building a sustainable future
