Angela Richardson is “guilty by association” by not resigning Conservative whip in Parliament

YouGov MRP poll 2.7.22

The local Liberal Democrats have demanded Angela Richardson ceases propping up Boris Johnson's Government in Parliament by resigning the Conservative whip.

Ms Richardson remains a Conservative Party MP and therefore will continue to vote for Boris Johnson's legislation in the House of Commons.

A recent independent poll carried out by YouGov found the Liberal Democrats would win Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages if an election was held tomorrow. The party has previously declared the seat as a "two-horse race between Boris Johnson's Conservatives and the local Liberal Democrats"

Liberal Democrat candidate for Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages, Zöe Franklin said:

"It has been shameful to see our constituency's Conservative MP stand loyally by Boris Johnson's side through years of scandals and lies.

"Guildford and Cranleigh constituency deserves a local MP who puts local people first instead of just acting to save her own skin. She is clearly just blowing with the wind.

"It is time our area had an independent-minded MP who actually votes down unfair tax hikes, demands better for our NHS and doesn't side with Boris Johnson until the very last minute.

"Angela Richardson is guilty by association by remaining as a Conservative MP, and if she really cared about Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages she would resign to sit as an independent. Every day she remains a Conservative MP is another day she props up Boris Johnson by voting through his out-of-touch policies in Parliament.

"At the next election, it will be up to the people of Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages to get rid of Boris Johnson to restore integrity and decency in our politics"
