A Statement from Zöe Franklin, Guildford’s Liberal Democrat MP
As a proud Guildfordian of 25 years, I am honoured to be your new MP.
To everyone in Guildford and our villages who put their trust in me and voted Liberal Democrat, thank you.
Throughout this General Election campaign and over the many years I have campaigned alongside the people of Guildford, I have always said that, if elected as MP, I would be accessible and community-focused. An MP who listens, acts and is a strong voice for Guildford and our villages in Westminster.
Today, I make that commitment to you. I commit to being an MP for everyone. For too long there have been areas of our constituency that have not been heard. You have my assurance that changes with this result.
This was the most important General Election in a generation.
Across Surrey, and the whole country, this was a resounding rejection of the Conservatives and of 14 years of decline.
The Conservatives’ legacy is one of miserable failure. Our public services decimated, the NHS doing its best but is chronically under-funded, millions of children living in poverty, taxes at a record high, sewage in our waterways.
I look forward to going to Westminster alongside my immediate neighbours Will Forster for Woking, Chris Coghlan for Dorking and Horley, and Alasdair Pinkerton for Surrey Heath, as part of a strong team of Liberal Democrat MPs for Surrey.
I am proud that here in Guildford, we have played our part in getting rid of the Conservative government. I am proud of the part we will play in bringing hope for a better future, and for a Fair Deal.
