Guildford’s ‘Car Free Day’ returns for 2022

17 Aug 2022

On Sunday 25th September, Guildford Borough Council will put pedestrians first for 'Car Free Day 2022'. The Council is transforming Guildford town centre again for a day of celebrations and free family fun.

More than 24,000 residents and visitors attended the launch event in 2021.

Guildford will have market stalls, street food, live music and street performances from local groups. There will also be street play areas for children, plus lots more for families.

Lib Dem Councillor and Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Cait Taylor, said:

"We are fully committed to supporting our residents in the fight to tackle climate change. We realise this one day town centre event won't fix all the environmental challenges we face. But it's another step towards finding some solutions."

"Car Free Day will encourage people to leave their car at home and travel into town in other ways. It will also provide the opportunity to learn about active travel and sustainable living. This will undoubtedly have a positive effect on both our health and the environment."
