Friary & St. Nicolas

County Cllr David Goodwin

David GoodwinDavid has lived in Guildford town centre for sixteen years. He has been a Surrey County Councillor since 2005 and has also been a Borough Councillor for Onslow ward since 2015. David is particularly interested in licensing and planning matters. He strongly believes in limiting the number of taxi licenses, to their pre-2003 numbers, which will mean that taxi drivers won't have to worksuch long hours to make a decent living. As a member of the planning committee, he has opposed over-development in the town centre and protecting what little green space is left in the area.

David says "the best part of being 'dual-hatted' is that I have an invaluable holistic overview of both local and Surrey-wide issues. He continues "I have been an active member on both the Planning and Licensing Committees for the past sixteen years.

"From a planning perspective, there are several projects in the pipeline affecting Guildford. For example, residents will soon be consulted on the Town Centre's Masterplan and the North Street redevelopment. There's also the proposed redevelopment of Guildford railway station, improved pedestrian access over the railway and, of course, further work on The Local Plan."

In addition to his Councillor roles, David is a Governor at Queen Eleanor's Church of England School and a Trustee at Hilliers Almshouse on Farnham Road.

Borough Cllr Caroline Reeves

Caroline ReevesCaroline has lived in the ward for more than twenty years and was elected to Guildford Borough Council in 2006. Working as a freelance book designer Caroline has an interest in the business community and their needs in the town. She also understands the problems car ownership can bring in the town and has campaigned for increased spaces for residents parking and the establishment of a car club. As a member of the planning committee, Caroline has tried to balance the need for more housing against the loss of open spaces.

Caroline says, "When I moved to Guildford 27 years ago I was still working as a freelance book designer with a studio in London, commuting daily. With the arrival of affordable internet and Apple Macs I decided to work from home, and from that point became much more aware of community life here in the town. I was elected as a Lib Dem councillor in Friary & St Nicolas in 2005."

"I am particularly interested in the redevelopment of the town centre and North Street, having seen the previous plans fail, and I sit on panels for both groups. As a Trustee of Guildford Action, working with them to support the homeless, I have a regular reminder of our need for affordable housing across the borough. I walk through the ward several times a day to get to meetings and I thoroughly enjoy being able to talk to residents to keep in touch with the many and diverse local issues."
