About Guildford's Liberal Democrats
The Guildford Liberal Democrats local party covers the borough of Guildford and has a long record of service to our community through our hard-working borough and county councillors along with our many dedicated volunteer activists.
The Liberal Democrats in Guildford have 17 Guildford Borough councillors and 5 Surrey County councillors in the Guildford Borough Council area, plus 3 Waverley Borough councillors and an addition Surrey County councillor in Cranleigh which is part of Guildford Constituency.
We run Guildford Borough Council in a power-sharing coalition with the R4GV party, with both parties holding four out of eight Executive portfolios and with the Council Leader position rotating between both parties. The way in which the coalition operates is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties.
We also run Waverley Borough Council in a rainbow alliance alongside Farnham Residents, Labour and the Greens. The Lib Dems hold four out of team Executive portfolios and currently hold the Council Leader position which rotates between us and Farnham Residents.
The party's great strength lies in the support of the many volunteers who help us stay in touch with the borough's residents. From talking to residents, to clerical work and delivering leaflets, they are the key to our continuing success in championing our communities. We are always looking for people to join our growing team. Click here to Volunteer.

The Liberal Democrats are different. We believe in putting people first, in enabling them to achieve their potential and giving them control over their own lives. We believe in equality, opportunity and community and stand for the rights of everyone, no matter what their backgrounds are. As it says at the beginning of our party constitution:
The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
Guildford Liberal Democrats cover the borough of Guildford which encompasses the town of Guildford itself as well as areas that include Ash, Tongham, the Horsleys, Clandon and Effingham. We also take primary responsibility for the Guildford constituency. Here is a map of the area we cover:
