The local Liberal Democrats have branded Angela Richardson's response to the Sue Gray report "disrespectful" to people across Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages who abided by lockdown rules.

The Sue Gray report included pictures of Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak together at a birthday party. The report came with a damning line to Boris Johnson's Government, saying, "the senior leadership at the centre, both political and official, must bear responsibility for this culture."

Guildford and Cranleigh's Liberal Democrats have today called on Boris Johnson to resign as the damning Sue Gray report is published and the Partygate scandal comes to a head.

The local Liberal Democrats have accused the Conservatives of "failing the country" and added that while thousands of people across Guildford, Cranleigh and or villages made sacrifices, Boris Johnson's Number 10 enjoyed parties and 'Wine Time Fridays'.

In recent weeks, across Guildford and Cranleigh, as the Guildford Lib Dem team and I have knocked on doors to talk to residents, the number one topic that people want to discuss is the skyrocketing cost of living. People are deeply concerned about what the combination of rising fuel, food and energy prices, tax rises, benefit cuts and 10% inflation will mean for them and their families over the coming months, but especially from the autumn and beyond. They share with us about how their food bills have risen, many talk about how their energy bills have more than doubled, and almost everyone says that they are having to cut back on leisure and holiday plans - some even say they will need to cut back on essentials.

Lib Dem councillors have highlighted the experience of Ukrainian school-age children who have arrived to live with their hosts in Surrey under the Government's Homes for Ukraine Scheme but are still waiting to secure a place at a local school.

Lance Spencer (Goldsworth East and Horsell Village) raised the issue at this week's Council meeting citing the example of a child who had recently arrived in the area but had been unsuccessful in their application to a school just 200 metres from the host family's home.

Guildford Liberal Democrats are asking residents to support a simpler community-wide 20 mph zone.

This petition will be used to encourage Surrey County Council to follow many other highways authorities such as Lancashire, Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire to radically change their approach to the introduction of 20 mph speed limits in areas where it is currently 30mph.

Ever since the extent of sewage pollution in our rivers and coastal waters, I have regularly had conversations with residents who are angry and upset over the Conservative Government's failure to stop sewage dumping in our rivers and coastal waters.

The Conservative Government has tried to say publicly that it shares that anger and is acting decisively to bring an end to the issue. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In April inflation hit 9%, its highest rate in 40 years. Energy prices, fuel prices and good prices are all soaring with no sign of slowing down in 2022. For many people things are being made even worse by the recent National Insurance hike, cuts to Universal credit and the January fall in wages. The result is a cost of living crisis that has left people facing difficult financial decisions, some as extreme as the choice between heating and eating.

Lib Dem borough and district councillors had an election to remember earlier this month when residents in those Surrey areas which hold elections in thirds, went to the polls on 5th May.

    Elmbridge

Lib Dems in Elmbridge successfully held onto three seats and gained 4 of the 6 seats lost by the Tories. Many of the wards holding elections were part of Dominic Raab's parliamentary seat which has already been identified as being 'under threat'. These successes are continued evidence that an upset could be on the cards in the next general election.
