Sue Doughty and local Liberal Democrats will be heading to Bournemouth this week for their annual conference. Sue Doughty, Parliamentary Candidate for Guildford, said "This is the last conference before the General Election, and we will be setting out firm proposals to the electorate but also our proposals for A Fresh Start for Britain."
Liberal Democrats plan to cut taxes for people on low or middle incomes, create green jobs and ensure that every child has the best start in life.
With Liberal Democrats working across the country to become a stronger party than Labour Sue is looking forward to the election. "The current government has run out of steam and its time for Brown to go" she said.
"We need an election now. We are looking forward to making major gains across the country and every Lib Dem vote in the country will be a vote to get rid of Gordon Brown and to give Lib Dems the best chance to make a difference to the people of this country.
"With Nick Clegg as Leader, and Vince Cable at the helm of our economic plans we are going forward with the best team in any party and many many people in Guildford, as well as across the country want to see people like them and like playing a strong role in Parliament.
"With the Conservatives failing to come up with any serious plans for government, many local residents don't trust them to bring about real change. This is why Liberal Democrats are the only alternative here.
Sue welcomed the strong agenda for the conference. With the party not only setting out it's plans for reform in taxation, and indeed for Parliament, the agenda also includes key debates on the Environment, a specialist area for Sue. Additionally key debates on important issues such as Torture, the Military Covenant, Child Safety and Globalisation are welcome high spots. On particular she highlighted Rail Transport and the Military Covenant as key issues which affect many local residents. "With continued high costs for a mediocre services, change is urgently needed if we are going to encourage people to take the train", Sue said.
She added "I also will be taking a key interest in the Military Covenant. It is easy for governments to volunteer to intervene in conflict areas around the world but the reality is that we are overstretched, and our armed forces who have no voice in such matters are entitled to the respect to which they are entitled, and to receive the fair treatment for themselves and their families which should be their right. As an MP I spent considerable time dealing with forces problems and learning more about the work they do, which is often essential for peacekeeping. Although I voted against the Iraq war all political parties must take responsibility for the actions of Parliament and the impact on our service men and women."
