Light at the end of the Tunnel?

Sue Doughty and Cllr Chris Ward are delighted that CCTV has been installed in the Tesco underpass but the Conservative council are still letting students down on safety

Student safety has always been a key issue for Sue Doughty and for many years she has supported students, university staff and local residents in the campaign to have safer footpaths around the university.

The last year has seen a huge improvement in both the lighting in the tunnels, and the provision to CCTV and a substantial reduction in the number of attacks on pedestrians. She congratulated Councillor Chris Ward, a former student on his work to continue the campaign. Chris has led the campaign on the Borough Council to achieve improvements to the tunnels under the A3 following attacks on students. "For years we have been working to get the University to cut back vegetation on footpaths and to generally open them up, and now with extra lighting and cameras students can now walk in safety to lectures at any time."
